The best gift I could get this year for Mother’s Day doesn’t come wrapped up! Unless it’s me who’s wrapped up… wrapped up in my duvet! Yes, sod the overpriced flowers and the luxury chocolates (calories I could really do without it, trust me) - husband if you’re listening all I want is a lovely long, peaceful lie in.

I don’t think I’m alone in this either. In fact I’m pretty sure if you ask most mums a decent night’s sleep, a lie in or some ‘me time’ will come very high up their lists too. I think I would actually weep with joy if my husband gave me ‘sleep in’ vouchers that I could cash in whenever i wanted!

I may not be a ‘new’ mum anymore – my two are aged 8 and 5 and generally sleep very well – but they do have their moments when they wake up and ‘want me, and only me’ in the middle of the night. And while they may be out of the new born phase every minute of life now seems to be jam packed – whether that’s with working, taking kids to school, homework and ferrying to the hoard of extra-curricular activities. In truth, I am exhausted just writing it all down!

So, being able to go to bed and wake up without a child jumping on me or an alarm clock going off for school, dance class or rugby is a dream come true. And we all know how we feel when we’ve had a good night’s sleep. We are more positive, energised and patient. Plus we look better too – brighter eyes and skin – and these days, I need all the help I can get!

So mums, I hope you get a good night’s sleep and a lovely lie-in this Mother’s Day… and maybe if you’re really lucky, breakfast in bed?

Now there’s a thought…
